True, but for the problems that Git LFS solves P4 is usually the other option. P4 handles large binaries very well, caveat being the rest of P4. In some projects the caveats are worth it. I work in video games and our in house engine has an unfiltered checkout size over a 1TB.

I've found LFS very brittle when bouncing between branches and moving around in history. There's been many times I've had my local check out blow up through rebases or mistakes I've made. Many times the recovery is to nuke and re-clone. With a 1TB repo that's not a good option.

It's been a while since I've used it, and I'm sure some of my problems were skill issues, but I never found it worth the pain at any scale I've tried to use it.


I mean, anything with a microphone or camera (and some things without) can theoretically be used to listen to/record you at any given time for a myriad of reasons.

If you are worried about such a device being on your person, I think the easy solution is just not to wear or buy one.

I think near any anti-fingerprinting efforts though presume some floor level of system security and stability. If some particular hardware exposure feature lets attackers run arbitrary low level timing and hardware testing code or crash the system or break the sandbox the game is likely over for most people.

An extra bit of entropy isn't meaningless sure, but at some point there should be some weighing of absolute attack surface against it right? Some features just seem inherently anti-privacy/anti-security and one might just have to try to deal with that via other approaches.


Ooh this is the closest description I've heard to one odd thing I had which was a satisfying feeling associated with two specific thicknesses (one around the thickness of a school copy book, the other around the thickness of a school maths book). At some points it could be activated by thinking about the thickness but long gone now.

Also had 3 more complex emotions/feelings/states that were a blend of certain particular things, not always that connected. For example one was mostly a combination of memories of my grandad's past (he died before I was born), and the Ratchet and Clank level "Metropolis". Similarly, the actual feeling of these is now gone. Anyone else have something similar?

In a sense yes. I trust that my coworkers will be accountable for their outcomes and accomplish them with the high quality bar I know they intrinsically hold themselves to. And that they understand our shared goals and if they don't, they will work to become aligned.

The use case is control. It's essentially a controlnet for the actual music writing. So a musician could compose melody, harmony, and lyrics and generate many performances of the same song until they get one they like. A non-musician could similarly generate the symbolic input from scratch, and perhaps they like the composition but not the performance. This allows them to re-render and re-render until they like the performance.

It was an unfortunate misunderstanding / coincidence, as I understand it. The Sky voice actor was a real person using her own voice (not doing an impression), and she was selected via a normal process with a number of other voice actors. If there is signed metadata too, then it's pretty hard. You will need to match focus distance (it will be very small if photographing picture), GPS location, exposure and other settings. If there is a depth map, you'll need to match it too.

If I build a house and the demand goes up I don't have to build the solar panels (and everything else involved) to cover it, I pay the utility company to build that based on how much I'm needing to use. Well, normally I pay for whatever they think will make them the most money to deliver that much electricity - Google is specifically paying to make sure the utility company sees it as increased demand and revenue for more nuclear.

Nope. Before the kids we had an incredible savings rate. Sometimes around 80-90%.

Now our spending is much higher but the growth of our investments over the last 10 years has been incredible and outpaced that by a large margin.

For a while I thought some startup stock I had was going to fund a lavish retirement but then AI largely destroyed the value of those shares so we're just planning on the boring index funds.

The Navier-Stokes equations have been around since 1850. The smoothness problem has been well known for over a hundred years and has only gained importance. It's been a Millennium Problem since 2000.

Levent Alpöge and Tristan Buckmaster did great work to solve the related Euler problem, but didn't solve the Navier-Stokes smoothness problem.

The Navier-Stokes smoothness problem has previously had significant resources working on it. Computational fluid dynamics is one of the most important tools in modern engineering and is closely related.

You speak of 10,000 agents as though it is somehow extreme, and yet within the past month I've had a single task that used over 100 agents on a mere Anthropic team plan. I think two orders of magnitude more compute to solve one of the greatest unsolved physics problems[1] is nothing.

I don't excuse Brubeck behavior because of this, but that doesn't minimize the achievement here.
